ABOUT US
A Dream Deferred Foundation was founded in September 2018. Our goal is to reduce recidivism, end mass incarceration and uplift communities plagued by drugs, violence and impoverished conditions; that have led many down the wrong path.
A Dream Deferred Foundation is deeply rooted in faith. Our name concept came along after reading a scripture in the Bible that resonated, Proverbs 13:12, which says, “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life”. We often, dream or envision ourselves crossing the finish line or completing a goal; but sometimes we lose sight of our dreams due to our current circumstances and past decisions.
Our motto is "A dream deferred is still a dream". Which means, no matter the circumstances, you can always change the trajectory of your life. We strongly believe in the power of redemption and the empowerment of every individual, regardless of race, religion, gender or sexual orientation.
OUR FOCUS
The dynamic risk factors for the reentry population we are serving can include; substance abuse, lack of literacy skills, criminal socialization, physical/ emotional health and social alienation. With extensive research of proven and effective methods, A Dream Deferred Foundation has established innovative ideas that will revolutionize prisoner re-entry. This program will help improve criminal justice related policy by identifying strategies that effectively reduce recidivism in economically distressed communities.
Our strategic approach to reentry focuses on providing holistic support that builds self-confidence, self-awareness and independence among other skill sets. We firmly believe exposure to new possibilities and essential resources are keys to reducing recidivism and positively impacting current and future generations.
Program Restore, focuses on a three-step approach to reentry which includes three distinct phases.
